New York's Irish Famine Memorial

All 16 counties of Ireland are represented on this landscape imported and reconstructed on the banks of the Hudson River in Battery Park City. Over one million Irish died in the famine of the 19th Century that drove many of our ancestors to the shores of America. Almost 20% of Americans have Irish ancestry, with roots in the counties of this humble sod and stone. It is worth a visit to reflect and remember.
